In May of 2021, Jellysmack raised the largest funding round ever to come from Softbank’s Second Visionfund. The funding will be used to invest in new product development, rapid international expansion and headcount growth. The company has around 1,500 employees based out of New York City (HQ), London and Paris, among other locations – with most of the revenue currently generated in the USA, but the international portion of the business beginning to scale.
The mission of Jellysmack is to enable all creators to scale bigger. The next few years will see the rapid expansion of the business from a product and geographic standpoint as it looks to cement its status as the infrastructure platform for the creator economy.
Background
The gap in the market for an offering like Jellysmack is clear. In the battle to rise to the top and make a sustainable living as a creator, time to curate, edit and optimize one’s content across multiple platforms is limited. Through its proprietary tech platform, Jellysmack is able to help content creators and brands promote and monetise their content across a range of services, including YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and TikTok – taking a share of the revenue in return. The success of any online content creator hinges on the recommendation algorithm of a given platform. Jellysmack can assist in editing content to be best attuned to the preferences of a platform’s algorithm.
A key product line that Jellysmack is planning to build is Financial Services that support the full lifecycle of creators. Money is a core pain point for any content creator and Jellysmack is looking to address that. By developing a suite of financial products, Jellysmack will better enable creators to fund their aspirations, alongside growing their collective audiences.
The Role
To build these Financial Services products, Jellysmack is looking to hire a VP Tech – Creator Finance. Reporting directly to the CTO of Jellysmack, you will be tasked to develop a compelling roadmap of financial products and services in collaboration with other senior stakeholders. This role and business line will be vital to the further growth of Jellysmack and contribute to the continued success of the creators on the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy. Develop a compelling roadmap of financial products and services in collaboration with the GM and Product Lead of Creator Finance Businesses.
- Insight. Identify and pursue new creator-focused financial products and services to disrupt traditional practices.
- Product. Lead the end-to-end delivery and launch of the products and services outlined in the roadmap.
- Team. Hire, retain, and grow a world class team of highly talented technologists with FinTech and data/data science knowledge.
- Leadership. Provide technical leadership and coaching to the team and participate in the technical roadmap and architecture for Creator Finance products and services.
- Collaboration. Partner other teams within Jellysmack Technology to improve the architecture, platform, and services we offer to our users and creators.
- Partnerships. Work closely with our M&A team to explore the FinTech community to identify potential partners for experimentation of new concepts and identify, evaluate and execute strategic investments and acquisitions of relevant FinTechs.
Experience Required
Essential
- 12+ years of working experience in technology leadership, focusing on building new digital products and services.
- 5+ years of high caliber fintech or financial services experience.
- Strong track record and experience in structuring, leading and motivating world class technical teams in a matrixed and distributed environment.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate your vision and plans to the C suite.
- Experience in product lifecycle planning and new product development, particularly within the payments/trade / financial services industry.
- Intellectual curiosity with the ability to rapidly synthesize knowledge and apply new technologies and business models
Desirable
- Experience in B2B Payments, Supply Chain Finance, Trade, and/or Commercial Card.
- Experience on an Innovation team within a large organization or work at a start-up.
- Prior experience as a CTO would be a bonus.
- Experience working closely with M&A functions, to acquire the disruptor tech companies in this space.
