What I offer

Executive Coaching and Mentoring
Drawing on my rich experience of leadership, strategy, HR, operations and building resilience in self and others, I help leaders wrestle with complex personal/professional challenges.
I will work with you and your Directors (outdoors if desired) to elicit the best outcomes for your business.

Consulting - Leadership, Strategy, HR and Defence
I work with organisations to build strategies and help teams align around their goals and values. I also offer advice on training design, senior talent management, recruitment, retention, wellbeing, personal development strategies and Defence matters.

Expedition Leadership
As a qualified mountain leader (soon to be a rock climbing instructor), I coach/mentor individuals or teams who wish to reach new goals in the great outdoors.
I'm also an accredited Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition assessor and take great pride in helping young adults push their limits.

Public Speaking and Motivation - Personal Resilience and Leadership
I draw on a huge range of leadership experiences gained over 35 years on operations, expeditions and working at the strategic level to draw lessons and motivate teams/individuals. I learned much about building personal resilience and the importance of both physical and mental health for leaders.
Experiences

Human Resources Director - Ministry of Defence
I developed policies and strategies for training, education, recruitment, personal development, adventure training, and talent management, for all members of the UK Armed Forces.
In parallel, I delivered quality/safety assurance for all military training for the Secretary of State for Defence.

Strategy Director - Ministry of Defence
I developed the UK's military strategy, engagement footprint, and active-service deployments across Europe, North Atlantic, and Mediterranean, facilitating complex outputs under pressure through collaboration with government and international partners.

Managing Director - Royal Air Force Station Commander
I led a team of 2000 military, civil service and contract personnel and was responsible for all aspects of operational delivery, welfare, discipline, finance, estate management and health/safety.
My role was to deliver complex, high risk, individual and team training for the Royal Air Force.

Expedition Leader and Adventurer
I am a lifelong advocate of personal development using the medium of the outdoors. Chair then President of the RAF Mountaineering Association, I led the hugely successful British Services' Expedition to Makalu, the World's 5th highest mountain (awarded an MBE for exceptional leadership).

Operational Leadership
I offer a track record of successful delivery on operations in Central America, Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Iraq. In Afghanistan, I led 350 colleagues to deliver complex outputs under immense pressure, while managing a diverse group of cross government and international stakeholders.

Non Executive Director and Trustee
I sit as a Non Executive Director and Trustee of the Mountain Heritage Trust.
I led on the Trust's strategy re-write and I'm currently leading on a fundraising bid with the Heritage Fund.

Ultra-distance Trail Runner
I still like to push my limits in long distance trail running events. I've completed a couple of 52km ultras and hope to increase that distance going further. Its important to have goals and one of mine, is to complete the 108km, Bob Graham Round (over 42 Lake District summits) within 24 hours.

Ukulele Player
I've always loved music and especially so the ukulele! I remember watching George Formby films as a young boy and marveling at his incredible, melodic solos.
As an amateur, one of my scarier life moments was performing 'when I'm cleaning windows' to a 500 strong, live audience!
