A seasoned business and technology consultant in the telecoms and software industries, I have broad experience scaling technology platforms and commercialising operational functions and interfaces across a range of B2B2C (wholesale & retail) environments to drive new revenue streams.
I offer a "done in one day" service where I come into a company and offer an objective opinion on a specific challenge the company is facing I working with the top team to try to resolve an issue in 24 hours , whilst drawing on my extensive network for a second opinion on more technical matters.
During the merger of ntl: and Telewest in 2006, I led a team which defined the as-is and to-be business operating models which underpinned the operational merger of the two companies to form Virgin Media. This work was one of the cornerstones of experience I used to develop Rainbow Service Design.
Led the team to create BT's Wholesale Billing Platform
Whilst at BT, I led a cross-functional team of 30 engineers from start-up. We created a prototype for a wholesale billing platform on clustered UNIX technology using a rapid-development CASE tool. We scaled the system over two years to become the largest billing system of its type in Europe.
I have been led or been an advisor on well over 25 innovation projects across the UK, European, African and Asian telecoms, software and managed services industries over the past 30 years. One example is a project I led for Deutsche Telekom introducing a new marketplace for B2B applications in 2015.
Ever since a swarm of bees landed in front of me in 1986, I have been fascinated by the world of the honeybee, and bring some of their magic to the world of business - both as an observer of nature and as a storyteller. I also keep a blog on bees which you can find at the link below.
Former Charity Trustee - The HALO Trust & PTSD Resolution
I have been a trustee of two charities - The HALO Trust (founded by my parents, we remove landmines and the debris of war from around the world) and PTSD Resolution (which helps veterans recover from PTSD). I remain involved with the HALO Trust's Association, though no longer a Trustee.
Sand Hill East was founded to leverage its extensive technology and business experience, senior financial services network, and investment community relationships to advise early-stage technology companies. Working between ideas, capital and enterprises to identify and fill people & technology gaps.
I have extensive experience in coaching and mentoring over 20 startups - including a few in Wayra and the Centre for Creative Collaboration. I have also invested in three start-ups to date. I bring to bear my skills in process design to help my clients get over the pains of reorganising for growth.
