Entrepreneurial and open mindset
Throughout my career I have embraced new opportunities and challenges. I have established several new businesses from scratch for investors and myself, both here in the UK and also in the US, and grown them to positive cashflow and profitability. I remain open to new roles and new experiences.
Experiences
The City
I trained and qualified with Hambros, an old merchant bank in the City of London. I learnt the essentials of working with clients, understanding the problems, and delivering the solutions to aid those clients. Those lessons inform my approach today.
The Access Project
I began tutoring with TAP in 2011, became a trustee in 2016, and was made Honorary Treasurer in 2019. Since 2011, we have increased fourfold with more than 2,000 disadvantaged pupils being tutored by volunteer and paid tutors to get into top unis. We are now growing across the UK with a £4M budget.
Manchester AI
I was COO of a revolutionary AI business in Manchester from 2016-2019; I co-led a £4M fund-raise and oversaw the development and launch of various AI prototypes. The business ultimately failed but it was not for want of trying in a fast-moving and challenging environment.
City livery company
I am on the Court of the Worshipful Company of Founders, established in 1365. In 2021 I was asked to conduct a Root and Branch Review. We are now implementing my recommendations so we stay relevant as a 659-year old institution with deep links into the City and our amazing foundry trade.
The Royal Albert Hall
Being a trustee for 11 years of the most prestigious performing venue in the world was an honour and a privilege. It is a unique building with a unique operating model that I oversaw as chair of its commercial trading arm for 5 years. I remain involved with and passionate about the Hall to this day.
Whitehall
Aged 27, I spent a year running the Parliamentary office of the Rt Hon Alan Clark. An amazing experience learning about Whitehall and Parliament with one of the most remarkable politicians of his era.
