Humbug is an advertising partnership working with Brunel Uni' to create a new data ecosystem providing advertisers with segmentation and profiling tools that recognise mature consumers heterogeneity - important, given they are the UK's wealthiest consumer group least understood, and pretty cynical!
Community research that works on several levels
How about using a community owned research co-op to do your research? The Community Data Cooperative is not-for-profit and offers quantitative and qualitative primary research expertise to help businesses gain valuable commercial insight about their customers. Unusual approach and great for CSR.
Data is one of the most powerful mechanisms for telling great stories

Great specialist boutique consultancy run by someone who's 1/2 Danish. We like working with businesses operating in the pharmaceutical and health and wellbeing sectors. Sustainability projects pretty high on our agenda too.

Employee sustainability projects
Successfully worked with a FTSE 100 pharmaceutical business to align employees with the imperative of achieving net zero and delivering corporate sustainability.
Winning CRM awards
Created a customer relationship marketing strategy and database for Genting Casinos, winning the Marketing Society Gold Award for CRM.
Launching new marketing agencies
Before God was a boy I founded the multi-discipline agency Liquorice Ltd, created a Top Twenty Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing Agency with offices in the UK, Australia, and South Africa. Just in the process of another one of course - The Humbug Partnership.
New product launches
Launched the UK’s first over-the-counter statin drug for J&J McNeil.
Doing my bit, well sort of
Implemented Australia’s 1st energy sustainability project for Queensland State Government called the Climate Smart Home Service Programme – which engaged over 350,000 households with a water and energy saving programme.
Brand repositioning
Repositioned and rebranded Kettle Chips with the look and feel it still has today.
Living dangerously
Developed an innovative township sales and marketing strategy for Mars SA confectionary products.
Community engagement
Designed and launched one of the UK’s largest citizen health and wellbeing data-led programme for Birmingham City Council (engaging 200k citizens odd), working with Sport England.
Not-for-profit work
Created and launched the UK’s 1st community-owned, not-for-profit, co-operative research company, to provide searingly honest insights from participants who have a vested interest and can visibly see the reward from completing often dull surveys!
Getting people active
Delivered an Asda Active Community Programme engaging 60,000 mums and kids with 70 sports clubs and 3 National Governing Bodies at 12 locations across the UK
Playing with the internet
Overseen the design and build of over 100 websites and e-commerce platforms across multiple sectors.
Getting political
Co-created the Invest in Cumbria Alliance to bring together politicians, private and public sector CEOs and the wider community into a space to promote investment in Cumberland, with a sharp focus on corporate social responsibility and ESG objectives.
Spotting gaps and trends
Launched a new marketing agency called The Humbug Partnership to create new insights into mature consumer purchasing behaviours, working with professors from Brunel University.
