Technical Director (STL-Tech)
STL specialises in working with early-stage Start-Ups, taking very early-stage IP, concepts, and prototypes and supporting the development through to full production. We worked with an incredibly broad range of companies and technologies. In 3 years we grew from 5 to 20+ people and £1.5M turnover.
Head of Engineering (Dashboard)
Took over the management of a novel new retrofittable ultrasonic pipe flow sensing system. Brought together a team, designed the prototype system and delivered it for testing at the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL) within 6 months under the aegis of an Innovate UK A4I program.
R&D Manager (FST)
Set up a new R&D Team within an existing specialist Train Detection company to utilise Fibre Optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) to detect trains using existing fibre running alongside the track. Organised the international team structure, set up the development processes and system design.

Technical Develpment Manager [STB] (Virgin Media)
Took over the development of a new STB. Virgin Media as the primary stakeholder, Samsung implementing the hardware platform and drivers, TIVO implementing the Middleware and EPG. Turned the project round from a confrontational quagmire to a widely recognised collaborative success story.
Head of Engineering (Fotech Solutions)
Ran the 26 strong development team, HW, SW, Fibre Optics, Mechanical, implementing Fibre Optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS). Many innovations and deliveries of systems for pipeline protection, train tracking, perimeter security and O&G downhole applications in challenging environments.
Woodworking (Hobby)
Having moved to our "forever home" in 2019 I have now built my dream woodworking workshop. Unfortunately, this has further exacerbated my addiction to power tools. Having been gifted a mechanism manufactured in 1795 I recently completed a Bucket List item to design and build a Long Case Clock.
