The Company
Practice Pal is a highly ambitious seed-stage Ed/Music-tech startup, reimagining how music education works, to tap into a multi-billion $$$ global market and help all learners unlock their wider educational potential.
They currently have a team of 10 and recently concluded a successful Seed raise. The accelerating recent customer uptake is making explosive growth look possible. The potential looks amazing, but also needs to be executed well.
The Role - Mentor/ NED
Practice Pal is searching for a tech-focused mentor for the CTO. If successful, the role could turn into a Non-Executive Director to join the board.
They currently enjoy an active board, with formal monthly meetings and informal communication on an ongoing, ad hoc basis. Meetings are normally held at the company offices, based near Nine Elms / Vauxhall, London.
The existing board comprises:
- Sarah Hopwood (Chair, former MD and current Trustee of Glyndebourne Productions Ltd, Chartered Accountant and experienced business leader)
- Simon Dixon (prior CEO within the Finance sector, significant private company experience including NED roles across diverse Family Office business portfolio)
- Ross Garrod (CEO & founder)
- James King (CTO & co-founder)
- Colin Hall (NED and founding team member)
The Mentee
James King is the CTO and Cofounder. After studying computer science (Cambridge) he has been a serial entrepreneur. However, nothing has achieved the scale that Practice Pal looks capable of, so he is keen to find a mentor who has been a CTO through hyper-growth and can help him navigate the technological roadmap, team building, and overall company effectiveness from a product and technical perspective.
Mentor Requirements
Essential:
- Experience as a high growth, technical leader - designing technical strategies, building technical teams, delivering at scale etc.
- Accomplished mentor, with the ability to quickly grasp the various technical (and business) issues, threats and opportunities, and help the Mentee/ board to think through options and plans
- Passion for the mission
- Within reach of London for board meetings (ideally every month in person)
Useful:
- Ex-founder
- Broad product experience (not solely technical)
- Experience in EdTech
- Well-connected in the investor community, with experience and contacts who will benefit Series A in 2024-25
Compensation
- TBD - likely a retainer or hourly rate to start
- If converted to NED, share options are available
