Fiverr

Fiverr is an online marketplace connecting buyers looking for digital services with sellers who have the right skillset.

What is Fiverr?

When first established, this marketplace was designed to offer quick and cheap digital solutions to its customers i.e. for a fiver. Fiverr has become so trusted that the brand has developed into a customer first platform, covering a wide range of professional services, whilst still maintaining the digital first approach. They require sellers to create a profile which buyers can then search for, view and choose to engage with when they’re looking for a piece of work to be completed.

Who is Fiverr suitable for?

Many disciplines are represented, with the lens of online delivery applied. From creative fields to programming skills, and business functions to translation services, most job types are covered in one way or another. This platform is ideal for those looking for one-off projects.

The Pros

  • Fiverr operates on a rating system based on the number of ‘orders’ completed to a satisfactory level. This appears on your profile and gives credibility to your packages.
  • The categories of disciplines are vast and detailed, so buyers can hone in on your specialism rather than trawling through irrelevant sellers.

The Cons

  • You are not in control of applying to jobs, instead you spend time making your profile strong enough that you attract work.
  • The system operates on the basis of ‘packages’ with associated prices. While you may have productised your offerings, you may be a little restricted with what you advertise here.

What’s it like for applicants?

In Fiverr’s system you are less an applicant, more a seller. After a short sign up process requiring you to explain your type of career and length of experience, you can get started on creating your profile. As Fiverr is a visual platform, you’ll need to spend some time thinking about how your profile looks and what information you want to include and where to ensure that your profile ‘card’ encourages buyers to explore your offering more thoroughly.

Buyers filter by price and delivery timescale, so setting these at competitive levels will increase your chance of visibility.

When a buyer contacts you regarding their piece of work, you have the opportunity to gain further detail, accept or decline. It’s important to note that a project is not considered completed until final approval from the buyer is received.

Trustpilot Score:

Typical Trustpilot reviews:

  • Some sellers have highlighted there is a risk of buyers cancelling the project last minute despite the work put in by the seller.
  • The main complaints focus on the listing algorithm not behaving logically, with some sellers not appearing as highly as they feel they should and others having their accounts disabled.
  • The positive reviews talk about ease and speed of communication between seller and buyer.
