Nurole

Nurole is a talent matching organisation, specialising in non-executive director roles, focusing on open hiring practices.

What is Nurole?

Inspiring boards to think more imaginatively around executive search, Nurole’s approach to recruitment organically brings diversity to leadership teams by offering a wider pool of expert candidates. The focus is on skills, experience and passion, enabling upward mobility for individuals who would not normally appear via traditional search methods. All candidates are pre-vetted to become ‘members’ and are contacted whenever suitable roles arise.

Who is Nurole suitable for?

This platform is designed for those that have sat on a board before, or those who have skills and experience that validate board readiness.

The pros

  • Hundreds of NED opportunities per year
  • Once you have filled out your profile, relevant board opportunities are emailed to you
  • The roles listed are often well paid
  • Basic membership is free
  • Skills and experience-based recruitment, opening up opportunities to a wider audience

The cons

  • Very competitive – we hear 200+ applicants per role
  • Only ~1% of professionals registered with Nurole actually get a board role (through Nurole) each year
  • Becoming a member requires an application that, if accepted, becomes an invitation to join. Some can bypass this step by receiving an invitation from an existing member.

What’s it like for applicants?

Having a partially complete profile will never win you any roles, given the competitive nature of the site, so take it seriously or you most likely won’t find work. It takes 30-60 minutes to complete your profile thoroughly and ensure you differentiate yourself.

Thereafter it is pretty easy – you get emailed whenever a suitable role is posted. They want a large, diverse ‘long list’ so send a lot of roles that you may only be peripherally suitable for. Just don’t expect to make the shortlist very often. Most of our members who have been with Nurole for years have never landed a role through the platform, but there are happy exceptions.

What people are saying:

  • In the absence of reviews, this is difficult to judge. Most likely those that have won roles are happy and the rest are less so. Several TPC community members have signed up and a few have landed roles, so it does work for some.

Here at The Portfolio Collective, we also have plenty of consultative roles listed on our opportunities page and shared through our community. If you’re interested in getting matched with relevant roles when they come up, we also encourage you to complete your TPC profile to ensure you’re found and tagged for those opportunities.
