We’re looking for a highly effective Chief of Staff (CoS) to work with our CEO, David Atkinson. The role is UK-based, remote-first, with access to a central London office.
About the role
The Chief of Staff (CoS) is a strategic partner to the CEO, driving growth for SenseOn through ensuring the smooth execution of company initiatives and alignment across departments.
The CoS is critical to the SenseOn mission; s/he is seen as a trusted partner and a force multiplier of the CEO. This senior person will support the CEO directly, freeing up his time, as well as lead cross-functional projects as applicable. The role also involves managing the horizontal operating model, facilitating communication across the company and ensuring cross-functional alignment.
As context, the CEO’s priorities include the following:
- Developing a winning strategy in a large TAM
- Hiring and leading the best possible executive team
- Further developing their horizontal operating model
- Being able to get out of the weeds, to bring fresh insights to the team
Responsibilities of the Chief of Staff
- Strategic alignment: Work with CEO to align company goals and strategies across all departments. Includes meeting preparation and off-sites.
- Operational alignment and support: Oversee horizontal operating model, facilitating cross-departmental collaboration and efficiency. Manage annual/quarterly planning, "hatless" Operations Leadership Team, and operating cycles. Monitor WIP limits and progress key initiatives. Help CEO prioritise tasks and manage time. Create written materials and presentations.
- Advisory and analysis: Support executive decision-making through business data analysis. Act as CEO’s sounding board for difficult decisions. Use analytics to inform strategy and track progress. Use business overview to identify process gaps and problem areas.
- Feedback mechanism: Collect candid feedback from leaders and provide honest, objective feedback to CEO.
- Project management: Lead strategic cross-functional projects, ensuring timely delivery aligned with company goals.
- Communication facilitation: Liaison between CEO and function heads for clear, effective communication.
- Cultural stewardship: Promote and uphold company values across the organisation. Support transparency and collaboration culture.
- Function oversight: Accountable for revenue operations; Revenue Operations Manager will report into the CoS.
The profile we’re looking for
The broad nature of the role means that candidates could have a variety of backgrounds; the priority will be experience building organisations with a similar growth journey. Practically, this means around Series A, or at the $5-25m ARR stage. Candidates must have both strategy and operations experience, ideally including a B2B SaaS environment.
Given the importance of trust in this role, discretion and EQ, as well as team / cultural fit, are must-haves.
Essential experience and skills needed:
- Experience working in an early-stage startup/ scaleup environment (Series A / $5-25m ARR).
- 2-5 years of experience specifically in strategy and operations leadership roles within a growing business.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and with senior leadership.
- Experience in managing complex projects and driving strategic initiatives.
Nice-to-have experience and skills:
- Cybersecurity or SaaS experience.
- Strategy consulting and/ or MBA.
