Head of Marketing & Strategic Communications

GALLOS

About GALLOS

GALLOS invests in and co-builds early-stage (pre-Seed through to Series B) security technology companies (see www.gallostech.io for further detail).

GALLOS has assembled a world-class team with decades of nation state level security experience as well as deep investment and commercialisation know-how. The GALLOS team supports the companies it invests in by bringing unique security, science, technology, and commercial optimisation expertise, underpinned by highly connected, patient capital at scale.

In parallel with growing the Ventures and Build parts of GALLOS, we are also building a GALLOS Services business. GALLOS Services aspires to become a trusted advisor – providing clients with unique perspectives on the security technology landscape and supporting a global network of security technology leaders.

To formulate and deliver the strategic and marketing communications plan for GALLOS Technologies we are recruiting an experienced Head of Marketing and Strategic Communications (HMSC).  This is likely a 3-4 days per week consulting role for an initial 6-month period with the opportunity for the right candidate to then transition into a permanent role.

The Role – Head of Marketing & Strategic Communications (HMSC)

As HMSC at GALLOS Technologies, you will work closely with the TopCo, Build and Services teams to define and execute plans for all external-facing communications and marketing activities.  As the first marketing leader at GALLOS, this role requires a mix of experience and sound judgement, combined with a willingness to “get into the detail” of execution, working closely with colleagues across each of the business areas, plus the GALLOS Advisory Board and the external Strategic Communications Agency.

The key responsibilities of the role include the following:

  1. Communications Planning: Lead the formulation and delivery of overarching strategic and marketing communications plans for TopCo, Build and Services areas, working with their leadership teams and leveraging the external Strategic Communications Agency.
  2. Content Delivery: Deliver a content calendar (via appropriate channels) to support agreed communications objectives with key audiences.  Including working closely with the GALLOS Advisory Board to produce world-class thought leadership, delivered via podcasts, live streams, media, and online channels.
  3. Media / PR / Investor Relations:  Execute targeted comms and media/PR engagement to support GALLOS strategic objectives for key stakeholder audiences. You’ll work closely with GALLOS Founders and manage an external Agency.
  4. Events: Plan and deliver monthly (and ad hoc) calendar of strategic GALLOS events and speaking opportunities in line with the agreed plans for each area, leveraging the GALLOS team and Advisory Board as speakers. Engage fractional support to deliver Events as required.
  5. Website / Digital Platform Management & SEO: Ensure an on-brand digital presence via website(s) and drive relevant traffic to site(s) in line with agreed plans.
  6. Social Media and Community Engagement: Deliver engaging social media presence and activity, actively building core audiences in line with agreed plans.
  7. CRM: If required, recommend and establish an appropriate CRM tool for community building.

We would love to hear from a range of candidates, so please do apply even if you don’t feel you have experience in ALL of these areas.

Experience and Skills

Your experience and profile will include the following:

  • Start-up Marketing and Comms. A strong track record of having successfully planned and executed marketing and strategic communications plans within a start-up or scale-up environment.
  • Strategic Comms & PR. Experience in delivering clear communications objectives through both in-house work and effectively managing external communications / PR agencies. You’ll know how to blend these for optimal results.
  • Digital Marketing. Hands-on experience with digital and social media management.
  • Project Management. Top level project management and communication skills, including working with stakeholders and external resources to deliver project objectives.
  • Drive to Succeed. A motivated self-starter able to work independently at pace, engaging Founders and business teams as and when required. A sense of ownership and desire to deliver best-in-class external communications.
  • Presentation. First class written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
  • High EQ. You can work effectively with direct reports, peers, senior stakeholders and external agencies.

The following would also be positives:

  • Expert Engagement. The proven ability to work with subject matter experts to develop world-class content, events, and online engagement.
  • Industry Experience. Some experience working in Defence and National Security, and/or a related sector, e.g. Deep Tech.
  • Building From Scratch. Experience as the first marketer in an early-stage tech venture fund or technology company.

Remuneration

  • FT salary of £70-80k p.a depending on experience.
  • There is potential for this to be a fractional role:
    •  3 days minimum per week.
    • ~£500 day rate.

Location

  • 2 days per week in the London office (Marylebone) working with business teams.
  • Remainder remote, working UK hours.
  • Attendance at GALLOS events and other marketing activities as required.
