I left Belfast during the troubles, lived in Cambridge, then Sydney for a decade. I took a truck trip through Africa and survived malaria at Vic Falls. I dived the Great Barrier Reef. I swam with sharks both real and figurative. Today I'm back in London and am energised by the chance to nurture the individual spirit in every founder and enable their success by leveraging 20+ years experience successfully delivering products in multiple industries
What I offer
Entrepreneurial Business Mentoring
As a founder myself, I am fully aware of the need for cost-effective, efficient, and rapid product development and know the pitfalls to be avoided. I leverage my experience in delivering for both small startups and huge blue-chips to provide mentoring for early stage startups and SMEs.
I will support you in managing your business, providing an immediate injection of experience and high quality skills as Chief of Staff or at an operational level. You can focus on the vision and functions that drive the most value in the business, while having enough space and support to grow.
Unfortunately, businesses can and do fail. If yours is off track it’s crucial you regain control quickly. With the skills I've built up after years of saving overspending projects with weak or non-existent delivery and disengaged teams, I'll work with you to rescue your dream from failure.
Organisation design, governance and team building.
I build teams and design governance and org structures that ensure efficiency and accountability are built in. In my experience, failure to implement good org and governance structures can be the root cause of problems down the track. I will help design your startup for success from the beginning.
Advice on Fundraising Strategy for Early Stage Startups
I'll share my experience and understanding of the startup ecosystem, the funding options available, the pros and cons of crowdfunding platforms, and whether you want to talk to Venture Capital, Angel Investors, your bank manager, or maybe use the tax efficient options for your friends and family.
I am a mentor for LSE Generate programme, working with startups from around the world. LSE Generate supports the School’s students and alumni to develop entrepreneurial skills as they build businesses and innovate in the UK and around the world.
mi-blox was built as part of the Supertech Seeds pre accelerator first cohort. It enables leasehold flat owners to take control of their homes through the Right To Manage process using a self service platform designed to place control into the leaseholders hands for the fist time.
I taught myself to build apps, then bootstrapped Hyperlokal; a digital marketplace for independent local retailers, traders associations, and local Business Improvement Districts to enable the discovery of local services, generate revenue, compete against Amazon and turn customer into a community
I negotiated the platform deal between the BBC and Sky, then led the build and delivery of all 48 Olympics branded channels. With a budget of £10m we later added the Paralympics with C4 at no extra cost. It was watched by 51m viewers in the UK and was also used by Virgin, Freeview and Freesat
Enterprise Software Rollout for a Major Australian Bank
I led the design and rebuild of the network infrastructure of every Commonwealth Bank of Australia's branches (over 1000). To do it I built a team of up to 80 members, with its own helpdesk and training, and managed the logistics of kit and manpower to some of the most remote towns in the world.
I led the team that launched the Sky 3D channel bringing together the development and purchasing of cutting edge technology, the provision of infrastructure to the Premier League and the Sky Pubs business, to become Europe's first dedicated 3D channel.
I am Chair of the board of governors for the Clarendon School, a remarkable school in Twickenham for children with special needs. I am bringing my skills and experience to bear on the development of leadership of the school.
My father left home at 20 and traversed the globe at least once before returning. I never quite managed that but I've tried to be open to new experiences and see what the world has to offer. I'm a parent now, and on a journey with my daughter, helping her have her own unique experiences.
